Repeat election break

With the annulment of the 8th august presidential poll by the supreme court of Kenya, here we are at it again, another polls for us, Kenyans. The repeat poll is set on 26th October from a much earlier 17th. A time when public varsities had reopened ,particularly ,Mol university had things rolling; new state of the art main gate under construction  ,lectures , CATs and so much more expected of an institution of higher learning.

But all that aside, since I mentioned the repeat polls I know my rhetoric on the current political situation in Kenya would not be of your interest, you would be really interested to know if I dine on the same table with NASA or JUBILEE or I am in favor of the little popular Third Way Alliance, all in all, that’s my nut to crack in the secrecy of the ballot.

The break in itself is a blessing in disguise. It comes at a time when most of the students were taking their continuous assessment tests (a thing most of them prefer take-away assignments) .I prefer them too, and I can bet majority of the students would second me on this. The only problem that comes with this assessment is that it is never submitted in time. It is like students’ favorite extreme sports, doing their assignments on due date. Now with the poll due normal classes have to be interrupted, this just interferes with the term dates.

The break, presented an opportunity for most of us (students) to get back home and gain our calm after so much pressure from the demanding better part of this semester. Some of us had been hit hard by economic crisis and need to be under the watch of our parents or guardians to cater for our daily expenses. Our diet had moved from less vegetable (mostly kales) to more veges. In Moi, there is a superiority that comes with eating meat; it gives a sense that you’re living a good life that your pockets are not bad off. This makes me think that the university should offer disaster management course to comrades every semester to help them tame their quest for more “meat” or help incase financial crisis hit them after spending on meat.

30th October, being the date set for reopening of the varsity after the polls, students need stay calm and get back as they left or better than they left. Don’t get dragged into the war of words characterized by the national politics. As the society holds you high, an undergraduate, what comes off your mouth or whatever you post on social media should be less venomous than that of Babu Owino or Moses kuria, your “honorable.”
